The Sound Sensor is permanently housed in the van, not carried by investigators. It functions as a monitoring station, streaming audio from the site into the truck so players can listen for ghostly sounds without being in the building. This allows the team to track the ghost's activity and location remotely. The Sound Sensor Screen is one of several van-based tools, alongside the Surveillance Computer, Sanity Monitor, map of the current site, and Site Activity Monitor, that help players coordinate their investigation. On certain difficulties, the Sound Sensor Screen may be disabled and appear as a smashed screen.

In Their Own Story

The team was spread across Brownstone High School, searching for evidence. In the van, I watched the Sanity Monitor drop and the Site Activity Monitor spike. But it was the Sound Sensor Screen that gave me the chills. A faint, rhythmic scraping echoed through the speakers—like a chair being dragged across a gym floor. I keyed the walkie-talkie: 'It's in the gymnasium. I can hear it moving.' The team converged, and within minutes, we had our third piece of evidence. The Sound Sensor had saved us from wandering the dark halls blind.

Note that on higher difficulties, the Sound Sensor Screen may be smashed and unusable, forcing the team to rely on other methods.
