Ghost Orbs
A floating sphere of light, visible only through a camera, that silently confirms a ghost's presence and helps identify its type.
Ghost Orbs are one of the seven possible pieces of ghost evidence in Phasmophobia, introduced as a key tool for identifying the type of ghost haunting a site. These glowing spheres of light appear floating in mid-air, but they are only visible through a video camera (or night vision), not to the naked eye. They serve as a primary piece of evidence that, when combined with two others, helps players narrow down which of the game's twenty-four ghosts they are facing. As of the latest major update in 2024, Ghost Orbs remain a standard evidence type used in investigations across all maps, from small houses like 6 Tanglewood Drive to large locations like Brownstone High School.

Lore & Background
Ghost Orbs are a fundamental piece of evidence in Phasmophobia, listed among the seven possible ghost evidence types as of the latest major update in 2024. They appear as small, glowing spheres that float in the air, often drifting slowly before fading. Unlike some evidence that requires specific equipment—such as the Spirit Box or EMF Reader—Ghost Orbs are only visible through a video camera (or night vision), making them a reliable indicator of paranormal activity once the right tool is in hand. Their appearance does not depend on player sanity or ghost aggression; they can manifest at any time during a contract. While all ghosts can potentially produce orbs, the presence of orbs is a required piece of evidence for many ghost types, meaning investigators must capture them on video camera to confirm the ghost's identity. The orbs are completely silent and produce no audio cues, so visual observation through a camera is the only way to detect them.
In Their Own Story
I was standing in the kitchen of 42 Edgefield Road, the only light coming from my flashlight. The ghost had been quiet for minutes, and I was starting to think it was a Shade. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw it: a faint, blue-white sphere drifting lazily across the countertop. It hovered for a moment, pulsing gently, before fading into nothing. I called out to my team on the walkie-talkie: 'I've got orbs in the kitchen. That rules out a few ghosts.' We marked it in the journal and moved on to check for Spirit Box and Ghost Writing. The orbs were our first solid clue, and they led us to identify the ghost as a Myling before it started its first hunt.
Reader's Guide
Ghost Orbs are a visual evidence type that appears as floating spheres of light, typically blue or white. They are visible to the naked eye, but to use them as evidence, you must record them with a video camera. The orbs will show up on the camera feed even if they are faint to the naked eye. They can appear in any room, but are most common in the ghost's favorite room. Orbs drift slowly and silently, often near the ceiling or at eye level, and fade after a few seconds. They are not affected by player sanity or ghost activity level. To maximize your chances of spotting them, set up a video camera in the ghost room and monitor the feed from the van's Surveillance Computer. If you see orbs, mark them in your journal as evidence. Note that on Nightmare difficulty and higher, ghosts only show two or fewer pieces of evidence, so orbs may not appear even if the ghost type normally produces them. In those cases, you must rely on the ghost's special traits and abilities to identify it.
